To a worried warn of many – including this author – it appears that 38-year-old Carl Edwards is critical about gripping divided from NASCAR. Many within a batch automobile village approaching him to skip this season, suffer some time with his mother and children, then lapse for a 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season.
Even with some decent rides accessible though, his name hasn’t flush even once.
“I’ve gotten dual texts from Carl given he left (in January) and he seems to be doing fine,” pronounced group owners Jack Roush, who fielded entries for Edwards in a Cup, Xfinity and Camping World array for 14 years. “He didn’t demonstrate to me any denote that he wants to come back. It sounded like he was really content.”
Eddie Wood, co-owner of Wood Brothers Racing, pronounced he’s never listened a word about an Edwards comeback. “We haven’t seen him or listened most about him given he left,” he said. “Over here (in a Cup garage) people tends to forget we once you’re gone. Out of sight, out of mind. They competence remember you, though they don’t spend a lot of time meditative about you. When we go out that embankment after your final race, you’re arrange of left forever.”
In Wood’s mind it would be formidable for Edwards to lapse to full-time racing after being divided a year. “Jeff Gordon was left reduction than a year and he couldn’t do it,” Wood pronounced of Gordon’s eight-race cameo subbing for Dale Earnhardt Jr. final year. “Earnhardt was left half a deteriorate (2016 with concussion-related issues) and he hasn’t finished most given he came back. It’s tough when we get out of these cars for a while. A lot of things has altered given January.”
Championship-winning organisation arch and NASCAR Hall of Fame member Rat Evernham suspicion otherwise. “If you’d asked me that doubt 5 or 6 years ago we would have pronounced it would be formidable to come behind after a year away,” he pronounced Sunday morning during Charlotte Motor Speedway. “But it wouldn’t be as tough now since of a simulators for cars and marks that teams use; a make-believe programs drivers use outward a competition cars. Carl’s immature and in good shape, so we don’t consider it would be that tough for him to come behind if he wanted to.”
Edwards dumbfounded NASCAR in Jan by walking divided from a No. 19 Toyota during Joe Gibbs Racing. It was speculated that Mexican multi-billionaire Carlos Slim paid Edwards handsomely to produce his float to reigning Xfinity Series champion Daniel Suarez, something of a sports favourite in Mexico. Edwards never spoken a word “retirement” during a time, observant he was withdrawal since 1) he was confident with his career, 2) he had his health and his faculties, and 3) he wanted to be foreordain a rest of his life rather than have others foreordain it for him.
He recently sealed an publicity agreement with agents of ICM Partners to try career opportunities in “marketing, speaking, broadcasting, literary, behaving and other endeavors. Whether he could purse an party career and still competition is problematic. Several years ago it was reported that Edwards was NASCAR’s highest-paid driver. Even of that wasn’t wholly true, it’s protected to contend he and his mother and their children won’t have to worry about their subsequent meals.
During his walking-away proclamation 9 months ago he said, “After Homestead (the 2016 season-finale) we had time to simulate and couldn’t come adult with a reason because now wasn’t a good time (to leave racing). As methodical as we am and as most as we wear people out about details, we follow my gut. Sometimes we accumulate what’s around me and contend ‘if all signs indicate to this, that’s what we need to do.’ So, we did.”
Ah…. though he left a doorway ajar. “I know how things work,” Edwards said during a time, “and if something comes adult and it’s a right impulse afterwards I’d perform it.”
So far, apparently, zero has seemed a right moment.
