Shaquille O’Neal says he was only joking with flat-Earth comments

Gotcha! (Alan Diaz/Associated Press)

Shaquille O’Neal reliable Thursday what many had suspected: The Earth is, in fact, round.

Oh, wait, everybody (well, almost) knew that already. What Shaq reliable was that, as many suspected, he was only kidding when he offering new comments insisting a Earth is flat.

Speaking on a “Art of Charm” podcast, O’Neal participated in this exchange:

Host: “What’s going on with a prosaic Earth thing? Are we only messing with everybody with that?”
O’Neal: “No, a Earth is flat. Would we like to hear my theory?”
Host: “Yeah, tell me about it.”
O’Neal: “The initial partial of a speculation is, I’m joking, we idiots. That’s a initial partial of a theory.
“The second partial is, we pronounced jokingly that when I’m in my train and we expostulate from Florida to California, that we do each summer, it seems to be flat. When I’m in my plane, and we’re removing prepared to land, and we open adult a window, and I’m looking during all a land that we’re drifting over, it seems to be flat.”

Good to know that Shaq was only throwing a curveball, as it were, during everyone. Here is what he had pronounced on his possess podcast:

“The Earth is flat. The Earth is flat. Yeah, it is. Yes, it is. Listen, there are 3 ways to manipulate a mind: what we read, what we see and what we hear. In school, initial thing they learn us is, ‘Oh, Columbus detected America,’ though when he got there, there were some aryan people with a prolonged hair smoking on a assent pipes. So, what does that tell you? Columbus didn’t learn America.

“So, listen, we expostulate from seashore to coast, and this is prosaic to me. I’m only saying. we expostulate from Florida to California all a time, and it’s prosaic to me.”

When told by his podcast co-host that those remarks were a “dumbest thing” he’d ever said, O’Neal replied, “I do not go adult and down during a 360-degree angle, and all that things about gravity, have we looked outward Atlanta newly and seen all these buildings?

“So we meant to tell me that China is underneath us? China is underneath us? It’s not. The universe is flat. The universe is flat.”

Still to arrive — if ever — is acknowledgment that Kyrie Irving was only joking. The Cavaliers’ ensure got this whole discussion off to a start last month, when he said, (ahem) flatly, “The Earth is flat.”

Speaking on a podcast with Cleveland teammates Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye (what, we don’t have a podcast?), Irving offering these additional thoughts:

“All these things that they keep giving to us, all this information, I’m only observant that these things that used to put me in fear, it creates we not wish to doubt it naturally, since of how most information we indeed can figure out and how most information there indeed is out there. It’s crazy.

“Anything that we have a sold doubt on, ‘Okay, is a Earth prosaic or round?’ we consider we need to do investigate on it. It’s right in front of a faces. I’m revelation we it’s right in front of a faces. They distortion to us.”

Irving’s ubiquitous point, that people should doubt information rather than blindly assume that if everybody else believes it, it contingency be true, is well-taken (assuming that was his point). In fact, he might good have been going a flat-Earth track to make an elaborate indicate about holding things during face value.

Or, Irving might indeed consider a Earth is flat. Thank integrity we now know that O’Neal does not, as he went on to contend Thursday, “This universe we live in, people take things too seriously, though I’m going to give a people answers to my test.”

“You possibly giggle or we don’t laugh, though don’t take me seriously,” O’Neal added. “When we wish we to take me seriously, we will know by a tinge of my voice that I’m being serious.”
