Cubs’ Carl Edwards Jr.: Tosses purify inning for 17th hold

Edwards pitched a ideal eighth inning in Thursday’s 1-0 win over a Pirates to record his 17th reason of a season.

Edwards followed clever performances by Jon Lester and Steve CIshek with an effective inning of his own, as he got 3 Pittsburgh hitters to belligerent out on only 13 pitches. The 26-year-old righty now has a 2.50 ERA this deteriorate to go along with a 17 binds and 56 strikeouts in 39.2 innings.
